Classic Italian Sauces

There are countless tomato, vegetable and meat based Italian sauces, and sometimes it can be difficult knowing what to order to complement your pasta. But look no further! We’ve chosen a few of our favourites to partner a variety of pastas and meats:

 

  • Arrabbiata – A quick and easy tomato sauce with a kick, most commonly eaten with penne. The sauce is usually garnished with garlic, parsley and fresh chillies for extra flavour. Red wine and lemon juice are often added to the sauce for an extra tang. Make a mighty Arrabbiata by using our Simply Italian Tomato & Basil sauce as a base and adding black pepper and spices.

  • Carbonara – A sauce originating from Rome which is made from eggs, Parmigiano Reggiano, pancetta and black pepper. More often than not, it’s served with spaghetti but variations do include other pastas. Try our Creamy Carbonara sauce with our spaghettoni for supper this week!

  • Parmigiano Reggiano – Our Parmigiano Reggiano Sauce is made with authentic PDO Parmigiano Reggiano. To keep a classically indulgent flavour, we blend the cheese with cream for a rich punch to your pasta dishes. 

  • Ragù – A traditional Italian favourite, it’s usually made from a base of minced beef, but can also be made from chicken, veal or pork. A popular variation of the sauce is Neapolitan Ragù, using large cuts of meat which simmer with sautéed vegetables, almost like broth, for a number of hours. The meat is then removed and the sauce served. It has a deep flavour and is often served with long pasta such as tagliatelle or spaghettoni.
